Michigan’s Strength Augmenting Exoskeleton Team
Programming Subteam Member
🗓️ September 2022 - December 2022
Michigan’s Strength Augmenting Exoskeleton (M-STARX) is a student-run engineering design team at the University of Michigan focused on making practical powered exoskeletons that increase the effective strength of the user. By basing our designs on the best current research, we aim to bring exoskeletons to a functional level that can be applied to real-world use. As a part of the Programming Subteam, I collaborated with other team members to create a wearable arm control panel to access and manipulate the settings and functionalities of the exoskeleton. Throughout the semester, I created the design for the arm monitor and assisted in implementing the graphic display interface.
Foo\Bar - Coding Community Service Group
Founder and President
🗓️ January 2021 - January 2022
I was the Founder and President of my high school’s largest STEM-based community service group. Our organization’s mission was to bring coding and computation skills to underprivileged students in Hong Kong, where we held coding lessons, fundraisers, and joint activities with larger service organizations. I personally led, organized, and created lesson plans for 50+ coding lessons for class sizes of 20+ at a time, including lesson topics ranging from web design to Python, and MIT’s Scratch. I oversaw fundraising events and established connections with other local schools and prominent service groups like Kids4Kids and Jennifer Yu Cheng Girls Impact Foundation to organize joint service activities and lessons.
Throughout my time as President, I worked with 30 + student volunteers every semester and an executive board of 6 students to manage and delegate all service activities. The group eventually grew to 4 branches, with each branch specializing in collaboration with other organizations or in teaching in one specific area.
Peace of Mind
Mental Health Advocate
🗓️ September 2020 - January 2022
Peace of Mind is a nonprofit organization encouraging conversations to educate and break the stigma surrounding mental health based in Chinese International School, Hong Kong. As a youth-powered mental health organization, we aim to provide resources and opportunities to share knowledge about mental health to help break the stigma and give us a way to connect and bond as a community. As a member and advocate, I specialized in writing articles and Instagram pieces on toxic masculinity and how to identify and mitigate negative cultural pressures. In addition, I wrote screenplays and rundowns for Jubilee-style content videos with the aim to destigmatize conversations around mental health.
Kids4Kids’ Code + Create
Leader and Volunteer
🗓️ September 2019 - January 2022
Code + Create is a community service program organized by the volunteer organization Kids4Kids, where student volunteers from schools visit local community centers and schools to promote coding literacy for children of all ages. The Code + Create group at my high school were paired up exclusively with Sir Ellis Kadoorie Secondary School and conducted biweekly lesson for students at a middle school to high school level.
I first joined Code + Create as a high school freshman, and volunteered for almost 4 years teaching students at Sir Ellis Kadoorie Secondary School until eventually being promoted to the President of my school’s group during my final year. As President, I managed all communications with the school and students, created lesson plans, and taught classes of 10 students at a time. For younger and newer students, we taught using MI T’s block-based programming language Scrach, while basing our curriculum off of Google’s CSFirst projects and lesson plans. For more advanced students, we taught them the basics of Python using our internal curriculum.
